High Voltage Engineering Manager – Sacramento
Purpose
Reporting to the Global Head of Product Development, the HV Engineering Manager leads and is accountable for the development and delivery of successful new products to market from our Sacramento, CA design group; developing a talented multidisciplinary engineering team. To improve performance, reduce cost and time to market, innovate through management, mentorship, and own contribution.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead, direct, and support the Sacramento R&D Team. Hire, train, develop, teach, coach, mentor, motivate, reward and performance manage staff members.
- Meet regularly with direct reports to review performance, identify any issues and set expectations of goals.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend investment in equipment and systems to improve process efficiencies and product quality.
- Mentor less experienced staff on technical issues and handling projects and responsibilities; is considered a strong leader and role model for the [location name] R&D Team.
- Collaborate with other business functions to accomplish project, department, and business objectives.
- Direct appropriate support for manufacturing, sourcing, and quality functions within the company to improve processes, product reliability and the transitioning of new product designs with manufacturing.
- Determine resource needs, develop plans, track progress to those plans, resolve conflicts, and deliver scheduled milestones to projects.
- Manage team OKRs, group metrics and trends; implementing proactive actions to increase efficiency and productivity.
Governance
- Accountable for the compliance to company procedures, safety requirements, quality requirements and programmes related to good working practice.
- Ensure proper training is provided within [location name] R&D Team for company procedures, safety/quality requirements and skills development.
- Management of the [location name] R&D facility.
- Management of operational and staff budget.
Design and Product Delivery
- Work with senior management in the prioritization and assessment of future projects, team objectives and key results within the Sacramento, CA R&D Team.
- Review and evaluate product quality, cost effectiveness, and manufacturing performance to standards and takes action as necessary to correct variances.
- Accountable for ensuring engineers follow appropriate documentation guidelines and hold design reviews in accordance with product development procedures.
- Accountable for leading the team in developing, validating, and documenting product and process requirements.
- Effective communication: succinct and to the point with a variety of different audiences one-on-one and small groups.

- Ability to translate complex information into content that is easily understood.
- Keep up to date with new technology applicable to our industry, experiment and communicate/collaborate with our other design groups.
Team
- Provide management information and support to the Executive Management team in relation to delivery of the product delivery plan.
- Self-motivated team member working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.
- Develop networks across the business to support continuous improvement in working practice and product delivery.
Customer
- Work with customers and commercial teams on complex technical projects; highly visible interactive engagement with customers when required.
- Interact with customers and sales teams providing technical expertise.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure that required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner.
Requirements
Education and experience
- Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering/Power Electronics or equivalent experience.
- Experience in HV power electronics design from conception to production.
- 5+ years’ of experience managing engineering teams.
- Extensive knowledge of EMC, thermals, analogue and digital design.
- Capable of overseeing multiple cross-functional teams in all project activities for the successful commercial launch of new products.
- Active, high-energy communicator who drives the company vision to align the team, critical resources, management, and stakeholders.
- Proven track record of developing and launching successful, innovative products; has a thorough understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes and how they affect design decisions.
