Position: Cloud HPC Systems Architect/Admin Location: UK, Remote

The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker who can go beyond traditional
methods. Additionally, they should possess strong communication skills,
including the ability to present complex technical topics to both technical and
non-technical audiences. This role requires flexibility and versatility to work on
several projects, while prioritizing business needs based on outcomes.
NAG’s HPC consultants work with a variety of customers, typically in the
design, build and migration for HPC systems. This includes benchmarking,
profiling and tuning, advising on system selection, and implementing HPC
solutions in various cloud and on-premise environments. NAG’s consultants have
significant direct customer interactions and some travel (circumstances
permitting).
Responsibilities
Design, build and manage Cloud HPC infrastructure, including developing
customized solutions; from selecting the right instance types and configuration
management to full workflow management.
• Analyse and optimize the performance of systems and applications.
• Help develop new IP for Cloud HPC.
• Collaborate closely with internal technical and business teams to develop
HPC technologies.
About You / the desired candidate will have:
• A BSc (or equivalent) in a science/engineering/numerical subject.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an HPC Systems Architect or HPC
Systems Administration. For example: Experience in full system
performance analysis and tuning.
o Configuring batch schedulers such as SLURM or PBS.
o Configuring HPC storage systems such as Lustre.
o Installing and tuning HPC applications and libraries.
• Experience in full system performance analysis and tuning.
• Experience of architecting a new HPC cluster.
• Well versed in common scripting languages (ie Python, Bash etc).
• As the post will involve direct customer interactions, we would expect
excellent presentation and written communication skills.
• The personal traits of curiosity, enthusiasm and flexibility. You’ll be
learning about our clients and the challenges they face, as well as new
technologies and how to apply them. Discovering problems and ways to
fix them. You’ll also need to be able to work with (and rapidly learn)
unfamiliar tools and software.
What will make you stand out among other applicants?
• Cloud certification (we will help you become familiar with multiple
clouds and specialize in at least one)
• Experience developing infrastructure and applications for Cloud
• Familiarity with systems management and deployment tools
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools and cloud Cost Management
techniques
• Proficiency in a low-level programming language such as C, C++, and/or
Fortran, or experience with end-user applications.
• Some domain experience in science/engineering or AI.
