About the role

The Production Planner performs a functional role as part of the plant-based team to support the Supply Chain strategy at MSA. Specifically, this position will focus on achieving execution excellence day-to-day of the demand and supply plans for assigned production lines to meet customer delivery objectives. Success in this role requires close partnership and reliance on warehouse management, inventory accuracy, and material handling. In addition, ownership or rough-cut capacity planning (RCCP) is essential to both coordinate assemble-to-order (ATO) production plans and to partner with the regional Supply Planning team for made-to-stock (MTS) production orders. Ultimately short-term weekly schedule attainment consistent with a medium-term master scheduling planning horizon is the primary responsibility in ensuring delivery and the customer experience.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Production and resource planning

 

Use ERP generated reports or planned orders to convert to production plan, acknowledging incoming supply of materials, inventory availability, resource constraints, and internal/external customers’ needs. Ensure production orders are kept up to date to provide accurate MRP signals.

KPI: Schedule Attainment, On-Time Delivery, Backorder, Past Due Production Orders, Customer Order Re-Dates

Production line workload analysis

 

Utilize SAP demand signals to understand workload per responsible production line and aid the capacity planning process.

KPI: On-Time Delivery, Stock outs, Labor Variance

Production line reprioritization

 

Use SAP exception messaging to expedite, de-expedite, reschedule and re-plan your work centers based on internal/external customersdynamically changing needs.

KPI: On-Time Delivery, Backorder, Past Due Production Orders

Represent the department on New Product Introduction (NPD) projects

 

Work closely with the NPD project team as it relates to master data set up, workload planning, driving demand signals in SAP, and scheduling beta and stock builds to ensure production readiness.

KPI: Cost Reduction

Communicate production plans to stakeholders

 

Ensure execution of production plan through verbal and electronic communication of production schedule to the assigned Production Supervisor(s) and Group Leader(s). Communicate schedule changes to PLM and Customer Service as necessary.

KPI: Backorder

MSA Operating System use

 

Apply the MSA Operating System to correctly identify root causes of problems and drive corrective action results.

KPI: Continuous Improvement Pipeline & Execution

 

SAP Master Data maintenance

 

Includes but not limited to production lead time, MRP settings, MRP relevant material master views, total replenish lead time, repetitive scheduling set up and maintenance.

KPI: On-Time Delivery, Backorder, Master Data Accuracy

 

Qualifications

 

Experience (required):

 

Level I: 0-2 years (entry level) production planning experience. This level will focus on low to medium impact production lines.

Level II: 2-4 years’ production planning experience. This level will focus on medium to high impact production lines.

Level III: 4+ years production planning experience. This level focus on high impact production lines and advanced supply chain complexity.

Experience Preferred

 

Planning in a versatile production/manufacturing environment.

Experience with SAP (production planning and inventory control modules

Education (required):

 

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Logistics related fields
