Role & Responsibilities:
The join an R&D team who have up until now been designing both electronics and mechanical items as the sole dedicated mechanical engineer.
To design mechanical enclosures, fixtures and customer interfaces. The majority of the mechanical design will be to create enclosures to house some form of electronics.
To design cables and produce all necessary documentation.
To verify and validate designs; to aid a provide insight in project reviews.
To assist other engineers in the R&D team to achieve project goals.
To find creative and efficient solutions to mechanicals problems.
To create documentation for the manufacture of designs, and to assist in the transfer of new products to manufacturing.
To provide post-sales support for the service and marketing departments.
To offer assistance to the manufacturing department when they require it.
To receive feedback from support, marketing and customers to improve existing and future designs.
To share our common responsibility for Health and Safety in the workplace.
Core competencies:
Able to understand and translate specifications into designs.
Familiar with CAD software for 2D and 3D designs to produce manufacturing diagrams.
Able to specify requirements for new projects.
Ability to design for test and design for manufacture.
Experience in designing with sheet metal.
Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team.
Good knowledge of manufacturing materials and their properties (metals, plastics etc)
Interest in electronics.
Qualifications & Educational requirements:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Educated to degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Excellent attention to detail
Right first-time approach
Analytical and problem-solving ability
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with cross-functional colleagues
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
