Octagon Group are working with a world-leader in the design of satellite communication systems, our client is experiencing a period of aggressive growth and is seeking passionate, talented individuals to be a part of this. In line with this growth, the company are seeking to expand their software team and require a Python / Software Developer.

Responsibilities of the Python / Software Developer role:

Reporting to the Director of Software in Reading, Berkshire, and working closely with multiple engineering teams, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of a significant python application. Work closely with user of the software giving tight feedback loops. You will actively contribute to architectural decisions, in regard to technology choice, security and application structure. Working with a range of software technologies on various platforms and applications, you will help to ensure that the best engineering practices are being implemented effectively.

We are seeking a creative individual with a passion for solving technological problems and a strong technical background to join this exciting, growing team in Reading, Berkshire.

Requirements for Python / Software Developer position:

• Degree level educated in a relevant in a software, computer science, or engineering discipline.
• Must be able to work within a Linux environment, for instance understanding shell commands.
• Proficiency in a variety of programming languages, with Python at a minimum
• Not a must-have, but highly desirable if have JavaScript and/or C++
• There is an existing codebase under active development, they will add new features to this and maintain existing features.
• Understanding of Source Code Management (Git/GitHub) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines.
• Must be comfortable calling APIs that control external equipment.
• Comfortable working at all phases of software design, including requirements, planning, architecture, coding, automation, testing, debugging and maintenance.
• Experience in Linux software development (e.g., bash, make, cmake, remote access)
