Chief Engineer – Power Electronics

Position Summary and Responsibilities Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this is a senior technical role leading programmes to develop compact power electronics products for demanding applications.
In this leadership role you will be accountable for the technical direction of the programme, defining the product architectures to meet customer requirements and leveraging the best available technology to do so. You will play a key role working with senior technical staff, driving the engineering teams to achieve the design and development goals ensuring system performance is robustly validated throughout.
You will drive a proactive approach managing technical risk on the programmes ensuring risk mitigation activity is timely and robust
Key Accountabilities of the Role
• Defining the design approach to meet the customer requirements and ensuring a reliable, manufacturable product that meets the commercial targets
• Satisfying customers (internal and external) with fast, accurate, and technically competent resolution of technical issues throughout the product lifecycle (internal and external) • Defining the technical content of the skills required for the project and setting clear expectations for task delivery – technical quality and time.
• Leading the technical progress reviews and provides updates to project manager and/or customer, continually checking expectations
• Verifying and underwriting off all technical deliverables on the project including requirements, design review documentation, change management, design configuration and manufacturing process.
• Identifying IPR/patent opportunities ensuring these are assessed protected
• Regular review of the product market and technology advances to identify opportunities to develop new products and/or upgrades. Work with the business leadership to develop these into future development as appropriate
• Provide expert coaching for team members on the technology Qualifications
• Proven ability to lead a team of skilled engineers in product development.
• Good understanding of the principles of Systems engineering
• Expert knowledge in design of power electronic systems one or more of:
• Switch Mode power supply design
• High frequency digital and analogue circuits
• High frequency magnetic components (transformers).
• Experience in design for high reliability in electronic systems
• Experience in analysis of design failure mechanisms eg HALY, DfMEA/FMECA, FRACAS
• Qualifications: Recognised, direct practical experience in the specific product technology is paramount
• Further education qualification in electronics or other relevant discipline • Must be eligable to gain/already hold a minimum of SC level clearance
