The Role

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to support the development of our new generation of portable, handheld diagnostic medical devices. This is a hands-on role that offers a unique opportunity to be an integral part of this new and innovative company at a very early stage. This will allow the successful candidate to be involved in many aspects of the business, significantly broadening their experience and allowing them to grow with the company.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • This role will involve working closely with the firmware and hardware teams to perform hardware design work spanning component selection, hardware & FPGA design, and prototype support to ensuring designs are suitable for a production environment
  • Apply supply chain intelligence to component selection and recommend appropriate components considering longevity and availability
  • Design, develop, and test electronic systems and FPGA & microcontroller-based solutions
  • Perform FPGA design generation, implementation, and verification with simulation test benches, and deploy to target hardware/system
  • Undertake soldering and rework of fine-pitched components on prototype boards.
  • Support hardware development of both ARM & PIC-based devices
  • Produce documentation in line with procedures and QMS/ISO13485 requirements.
  • System-wide knowledge of electronics, software & mechanical aspects
  • Communicating status to key stakeholders in a timely and professional fashion
  • Working with other functions to maintain existing solutions and ensure timely delivery to our customers

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • 1st or 2.1 Honors degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or similar
  • 2-4 years of experience developing hardware for embedded applications, preferably in a medical-related framework
  • Wide knowledge of electronics components and ability to carry out analysis and make recommendations for alternatives
  • Knowledge of FPGA architecture, including the basic building blocks & digital design principles. Analysing requirements, specifying and documenting the FPGA solution and work breakdown
  • Proficiency in one or more HDLs such as VHDL or Verilog
  • Schematic design and layout of multilayer PCBAs
  • Experience of design for manufacture, including the CE marking process
  • Experience of working within a managed quality framework
  • Building and debugging embedded systems from low level
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles including mathematics

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Microchip FPGA devices (IGLOO & PolarFire)
  • Use of CAD software for example Altium or Eagle PCB
  • Building, testing and debugging electronic systems, including design for EMC, impedance matching techniques, etc
  • Generation of project-related information such as PCB engineering drawings, Flow Diagrams, Requirement Specifications, and Test Schedules.
  • Full design cycle experience – concept to manufacture/new product introduction
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
