JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

JOB TITLE:      Head of Planning & Logistics 

DEPARTMENT:   Operations

LOCATION:      Gloucester

TEMP/PERM:      Permanent   

HOURS/SHIFTS:   37 hours – Monday to Friday

REPORTS TO:      Operations Director 

DIRECT REPORTS:   Planning Manager, Logistics Manager, Inventory Control Manager

 

ROLE SUMMARY

As Head of Planning & Logistics, you will be responsible for managing all Planning and Logistics activities, including Production Planning, Material Planning, Inbound and Outbound Logistics including export compliance, Inventory control, Internal Logistics, and Warehousing.

You will manage a Planning & Logistics management team of Planning Manager, Logistics Manager and Inventory Control Manager in the execution of their day-to-day responsibilities.

The role will drive the performance of On Time In Full (OTIF) to Commit, Arrears, Inventory turns, and Inventory accuracy KPI’s.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Planning & Logistics team, ensuring that day-to-day responsibilities are completed in a timely manner and in line with organisational objectives.
  • Manage the development of the Planning & Logistics team to strengthen and enhance our capabilities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of robust Planning & Logistics process controls to ensure that all activities are completed accurately and effectively.
  • Oversee the introduction of new products and processes from a Planning & Logistics perspective.
  • Work closely with the Head of Procurement and the Procurement team in the establishment and ongoing management of material supply chains.
  • Drive the On-time in Full (OTIF) to Commit performance of the organisation, ensuring that all customer orders are delivered on-time to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Drive the development and implementation of effective production planning processes that support the achievement of world-class OTIF performance, including production scheduling, capacity planning, and Sales & Operational Planning.
  • Drive the development and implementation of effective material planning processes that support the achievement of world-class material availability performance including material scheduling, material forecasting, kanban systems, PFEP and ERP/MRP scheduling mechanisms.
  • Drive the development and implementation of effective logistics processes that support the achievement of world-class inventory accuracy performance including fixed/chaotic warehouse management systems, Perpetual inventory processes, and digital process control systems.
  • Manage the Planning & Logistics team’s compliance to the Business Management system.
  • Drive the effective utilisation of the IFS ERP system, and ensure that all planning and logistics data is properly maintained in a ‘clean’ condition.
  • Oversee the implementation of written procedures and organisational policies for the Planning & Logistics function.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive Plan for Every Part (PFEP) process for the organisation, designing and implementing appropriate controls for the management of all RM, WIP and FG inventory levels in line with organisational objectives.
  • Oversee the management of Supplier OTIF performance, supporting supplier audits when required.
  • Oversee the effective response to all customer delivery concerns with appropriate 8D/PPS tools and process.
  • Routinely report on Planning & Logistics KPI’s.
  • Define the organisational vision and direction for the Planning & Logistics function, including managing the development and implementation of an annual improvement plan that is aligned with wider organisational objectives.
  • Manage the Planning & Logistics function spend and budget process.
  • Establish and manage the annual objectives and KPI Targets for the Planning & Logistics team.
  • Support the annual external and internal audit schedule.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of the Planning & Logistics process. 

Other Responsibilities   

  • Development of close working relationships with the site management team.
  • To carry out any other reasonable requests and tasks as requested by the Company.

 

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Significant Planning & Logistics management experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Significant experience in the utilisation of ERP systems, preferably IFS.
  • Detailed knowledge of Planning & Logistics methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interrogate engineering drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
