MAIN OBJECTIVES
The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSEA) Advisor is responsible for ensuring that the necessary Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) processes are in place to provide a safe and healthy working environment for all our employees to work in whilst ensuring total compliance with all relevant legislation and/or statutory provisions. This will involve ensuring management, employees and contractors comply with the correct operation of the established systems and developing company policies and improvement plans to achieve best practice with respect to HSE issues in the UK. The HSEA will be the primary contact for the UK sites (Pulborough and Southwater).
The HSEA is the source of technical expertise within the business for health, safety & environmental
matters and provides practical support, training, and leadership to all parts of the company as
necessary. The HSEA will therefore need to stay up to date with the latest compliance and legislative
requirements that are applicable locally and to regions where our products are sold. As well as the
technical aspects of the role, the HSEA will work to develop a continuous improvement culture
within the business by promoting methods that build employee understanding, engagement and
direct involvement in health, safety & environmental activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitoring health and safety risks and hazard in the workplace, instigating a schedule of planned and proactive risk assessment activity. Creating and maintaining health and safety and environmental management system documentation and policies. Advising management and employees on how to minimise risks and hazards associated with workplace undertaking. Advising management and employees on environmental issues, promoting energy conservation, sustainability, recycling and waste management. Investigating incidents affecting pollution, waste contamination and waste management. Co-ordinating and chairing the EHS Committee, preparation and circulating minutes. Ensuring accident and near miss investigations are conducted and corrective and preventative actions identified and addressed promptly.

Support the provision of occupational health within the business, such as return to work interviews and risk assessments. Working with and training employees to manage, monitor and improve environmental, health and safety standards in the workplace. Carrying out workplace inspections including monitoring and surveillance. Hosting customer and other third-party audit of the management systems as well as assisting with the internal audit program. Regular reporting on health, safety and environmental key metrics and establishing target goals and objectives annually. Managing emergency procedures including fire alarm drills, unplanned evacuations, emergency teams of fire marshals and chemical spill recovery team. Monitoring changes to health, safety and environmental legislation and regulations. Updating the legal register and relevant management system to remain compliant. Carry out annual budget planning for required resources related to the role. Liaise with Sales Dept. to provide documentation and declarations as necessary to customers. Liaise with Fire Departments.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum NEBOSH Certificate. Operational health and safety management ideally in an electronics manufacturing/design environment for SMEs. ISO14001 and ISO45001 Environmental, Health and Safety Standards and associated Management Systems. Wide ranging and latest knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation with proven ability to interpret requirements into effective, compliant but pragmatic plans, systems and procedures. Confident, motivated and highly organised, proficient MS Office skills.
Excellent communication skills (including ability to liaise confidently with authorities and external bodies).
Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills. Ideally internal audit trained. Mental Health First Aider qualified or willing to work towards is preferred.
