Position Summary and Responsibilities

Working with to the Product Design Authority, the Lead Engineer is a recognised expert in the high power RF systems product technology. They will be responsible for supporting the technical oversight of activity on the product and may,  as appropriate, provide leadership on R&D or customer funder projects or customer application issues.

An excellent communicator and team player they will be highly proactive in working with members of the wider team providing coaching, mentoring and guidance to support skills development.

This role covers RF systems for defence and security applications and especially high power microwave, components, transmission and test methodologies and includes:

  • Design of system elements to achieve target performance
  • Characterisation of systems performance, behaviours and critical design features
  • Support customers in resolving systems design issues

Understanding design requirements across the product applications, the Lead Engineer will ensure pragmatic approach to product design, manufacturing solutions and adopt always sound vacuum engineering principles.

They will be working with other experts across the various technical domains and with other team members through all phases of the project lifecycle to ensure development through to completion

Qualifications

  • Strong technical background in high power microwave systems
  • Experience within a leadership role, and of managing through people
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering approach to complex projects

Desirable:

  • Understanding of RF Power products and technology including tube technology, control electronics and HV PSUs

Qualification:

  • Minimum degree level Physics, electronics or other relevant discipline.
  • Ideal: Post Graduate study in relevant discipline
