Job Specification – Mechanical Development Engineer
INTRODUCTION
Linkam is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of sample characterisation solutions. We make scientific instruments that help characterise materials from polymers to biological tissue and metals to composites. Our instruments are designed and manufactured in-house and used by some of the world’s leading scientific organisations and companies.
We are in Salfords, Surrey in the UK and Wormerveer, in the Netherlands with a worldwide customer base.
This position is for a Mechanical Development Engineer to work in the UK office.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as part of an engineering team to develop new features for existing products.
• Collaborate on the design of completely new prototypes, and customer “specials”.
• Aid the handover of new products to production.
• Support the production of existing instruments, with practical build information.
• Help with new product testing, reporting, and aid the writing of product literature.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE
• Mechanical engineering qualification to HND or Degree level.
• 4 years’ experience relevant to our products such as heating, freezing, mechanical and electrical sample characterisation, light microscopy, X-ray, vacuum, pressure.
• Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Solid Edge.
• Experience using 3D CAM software ideally Edgecam.
• Experience with design for manufacture and assembly.
• Able to machine prototype parts, assemble, test, and demonstrate concepts.
• Experience drafting 2D technical part and assembly drawings.
• Experience using Bills of Materials within an ERP system.
• Understanding of complex product structures.
• Practical industry experience, understanding R&D project lifecycle, NCRs, ECNs.
• Working with supply chain CE, ROHS, REACH requirements.
• Strong professional communication skills for customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
• Eye for detail. Mechanical aptitude. Hard working. Methodical. Self-motivated.
