Main Function of the Job
The main functions of the Power Electronics Development Engineer role are:
- Develop new products to add to the company’s portfolio.
- Redesign our existing product portfolio to maintain customer satisfaction.
Job Specification
- Develop 1-30W isolated DC-DC converters and AC-DC converters for Industrial, Energy, Medical, and Automotive applications.
- Lead development projects from kick-off through to manufacturing introduction.
- Re–design existing products to resolve design issues and improve production yields.
- Conduct detailed failure analysis to identify the root cause of failures, whether electrical or mechanical.
- Solve complex technical/commercial issues, working closely with all engineering disciplines within the company.
- Take an active role in performing verification and validation tests.
- Create detailed technical reports where required.
- Assist in creating design specifications, working closely with the Business Development department to exceed the customer’s expectations.
- Maintain project plans and report on the progress of project work as requested by the section manager.
- Take part in design reviews and be involved in the technical decision-making process.
- Provide support and conduct application-based testing for customers.
- Asist with existing product support, providing technical support to the Production, Business Development, and Quality teams.
- Ensure the company’s commercial expectations are realised, optimising product costs throughout the development process.
- Ensure converters meet the relevant safety standards.
- Work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Take on other work as necessary to support the company’s activities.
- Always adhere to the company’s quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)
- A formal qualification equivalent to a UK degree level in Electronics, Microelectronics, Physics, or a related discipline. Candidates with a HND or HNC in a related discipline will also be considered if they have relevant experience.
- 1-3 years’ experience in the electronics industry.
- An understanding of best practices related to mechanical design considerations within the electronics industry.
- Experience of conducting laboratory-based testing.
- Can work to clear timescales and lead a cross functional team to deliver projects on time.
- A skilled communicator, working with multiple departments at sites across the globe.
- Can multi-task and cope with a degree of pressure in a professional engineering environment.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English.
- IT literate.
Desirable Qualifications (Experience and Skills)
- Knowledge of modern power conversion design techniques applicable to DC-DC and AC-DC converters from 1W to 100W.
- Familiar with safety standards related to isolated power converters.
- Experience in analogue circuit simulation.
- Experience designing electronic components for volume manufacture.
