Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for designing and building custom test equipment? We are looking for a Senior Test Equipment Engineer to join our client’s dynamic team based in Middlesex, In this role, you will be instrumental in characterising and testing high-power RF amplifiers and HV power supplies, ensuring their products meet the highest standards of performance and safety.
Scope: As a Senior Test Equipment Engineer, you will design and build custom test equipment for complex, high-power RF amplifiers and associated HV power supplies, including testing under various environmental conditions. You will support diagnostic testing, establish root cause and preventative actions, and ensure the inherent safety of all test equipment. Additionally, you will create standard test procedures, document templates, and provide training to Test Engineers for new product introductions.
Main Duties for the Senior Test Equipment Engineer:
- Design and build custom test equipment for complex high-power RF amplifiers and HV power supplies.
- Develop and automate test solutions for various sub-assemblies to enhance test yields.
- Develop standard test procedures and document templates.
- Assess safety risks and ensure test equipment and fixtures are safe to operate.
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure products are fully testable using standard equipment.
- Write acceptance and factory test procedures to meet internal and customer requirements.
- Define ESS test methods, equipment, and interfaces to ensure long-term product reliability.
- Conduct RF power amplifier and HVPSU testing during environmental stress testing.
- Provide second-level support to Test Engineers for diagnosing test failures and establishing root causes.
- Plan and execute HALT, DVT, and environmental step stress testing activities for new products.
- Support qualification testing activities as required by program managers.
- Train test engineers in executing day-to-day test procedures and introducing new products.
- Attend Programme and Design Review meetings, providing reports and documentation for test activities.
- Collaborate with various departments (Production, Technical Services, Programme Management, QA, etc.) on matters requiring Test Engineering input.
- Maintain technical awareness of relevant test methodologies, technologies, processes, and quality improvement techniques. Attend exhibitions, seminars, and training courses as appropriate.
- Comply with health and safety policies.
- Undertake additional tasks as reasonably requested.
Responsibilities for the Senior Test Equipment Engineer:
- Safe design, manufacture, commissioning, and verification of special test equipment and fixtures.
- Safety of test equipment, fixtures, and procedures.
- Fault finding and diagnostic testing to establish root cause and corrective action.
- Development and approval of Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) and Design Validation Test (DVT) procedures.
- Implementation of Design Validation, First Article, and qualification testing.
- Development of standard RF test procedures.
Qualifications:
- Ideally, BSc degree or HND qualification in Physics or Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
Experience & Qualities:
- Experience and knowledge of power electronics and/or microwave power amplifiers and associated test and measurement equipment.
- Awareness of high voltage safety hazards and protection methods.
- Strong team player.
