Hands on Test Lead (Product Development)
Office Location: Dartford, Greater London
Working Model: Hybrid working model (3 days per week in the office for team-based and hardware-related activities)
Package: Base Salary + up to 10% Bonus + other benefits
Working Hours: Flexibility between 8-4 or 9-5
Due to increased growth we are looking for a Hands on Test Lead who have relevant software testing experience in a product development environment where hardware and embedded software play an important role. It is a hands-on role suitable for a Test Lead eager to take on also test planning activities for a small portfolio of products and project management tasks when the need arise. The system testing activities are carried out with manual and exploratory testing but we have a growing test automation setup that you can eventually contribute. Lighting industry exposure is a bonus but otherwise the role is suitable for anyone comfortable with some IT networking knowledge. You know your way around agile and you understand the different phases of a new product development.
Our business is growing and contribute positively to address wellbeing and environmental issues in our society. But it is also very interesting from technical point of view since you will be exposed to a variety of technologies and contributing to start our next generation of IoT products.

What you’ll be doing at Helvar.
This is an opportunity to join our team as a Hands on Test Lead. It is a hands-on role where you will be involved in carrying out some manual and automated test activities whilst the remaining time is spent on helping managing defects and organising the release test execution together with the development team and an assigned project manager. You will be instrumental in ensuring the quality of our systems and will be involved throughout the various phases of the project to ensure successful delivery.
Your daily tasks will include elements of the following:
- Actively lead and ensure optimum test coverage is achieved at solution and component level
- Generate and maintain test sets, ensuring coverage of all required scenarios
- Execute the test plan within a project or program together with the project manager
- Carry out manual test executions according to the project schedule
- Maintain automated tools for system integration and regression testing
- Produce relevant test reports and other documentation as needed
- Liaise with engineering teams for defect reporting and their tracking to closure
What skill’s we’d like you to have
To suceed in this role, you should demonstrate at least some of the following:
- Experience working in a product development environment with Hardware and Software
- Strong hands-on experience of testing throughout all stages of the software development lifecycle including testing embedded systems
- Experience in analyzing requirements and data to create test plans, test sets and test cases
- Experience of defect tracking tools (e.g. JIRA X-Ray)
- A good work ethic and an eagerness to learn. Tolerance towards ambiguity
Nice skills to have
- Experience of test automation frameworks (e.g. Robot Framework, Pytest)
- Some knowledge of lighting control systems, wireless technologies, and/or digital electronics
- Experience of Networking on embedded systems (IOT)
- Experience of working with AWS in a commercial setting
- ISTQB Certification in Software Testing
