Published Description:
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, responsible for interfacing with company personnel (especially those based in factories in the Far East) to optimise the design team’s new product introduction and responsiveness to manufacturing problems of in-service products.
Level of Autonomy and Experience
- Can perform these duties with minimal supervision
- Communicate verbally and in writing with representatives of Manufacturing located in China and Vietnam (strong English and fluent Mandarin skills are mandatory, both written and verbal)
- Track and produce summaries of electrical and mechanical issues affecting AC-DC switch-mode power supplies through investigation to root cause and closing out
- Understand the new product development and manufacturing introduction processes and constraints in both the Design Centre and the Manufacturing Facility, and use this knowledge to propose, facilitate, plan, and coordinate activities on both sites to reduce cycle time
- Establish technical credibility across stakeholder community (in Design Centre and Factory)
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in a R&D team of electrical, mechanical, manufacturing engineers and technicians on new product development (NPI) and support of in-service products.
- Identify, understand, organise, track, plan, and communicate about issues of mutual concern between the Design Centre and Factory.
- Ensure the Design Centre complies with process requirements to provide deliverables and support at appropriate times in the product development / NPI process.
- Represent the Design Team in regular discussions with the factory in English and Mandarin as needed to get a full understanding that can be related to the Design Centre team.
- Provide input to continuous improvement to the product development processes
- Keep up to date with new technology applicable to our industry, experiment and communicate/collaborate with our other design colleagues.
- Foster creativity and innovation in design solutions.
Team
- Self-motivated team member supporting projects working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.
Documentation
- Review and create engineering and associated documentation.
- Ensure completeness of all documentation to assure smooth transition from product design and testing into manufacturing.
Project management
- Anticipates required activities on both sides of Design Centre / Factory interface
- Prepares written plans using e.g. Smartsheet
- Monitors progress of all relevant activities in the Design Centre, identifies and manages risk
- Report on status on the assigned tasks
Customer
- Liaises with other XP departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner.

Key Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering/Power Electronics or equivalent experience.
- Fluent written and verbal Mandarin and English
- Nice to have: familiarity with written and verbal Vietnamese
- Familiarity with power supply operating theory and component technology
