PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER JOB NEAR TRING, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
A globally established and highly successful organisation involved in automotive, aerospace and defence technology are seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Rotating Systems to join their R&D innovation centre headquarters based near Tring, Buckinghamshire. In this unique, facility, the design design and manufacture incredibly complex electro-mechanical systems from concept to manufacture.
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Rotating Systems will be responsible for achieving technical performance during the whole lifecycle of their products and leading designs activities for the creation of next generation products. You will provide technical authority for 3D mechanical design engineering for the businesses rotating electro-mechanical systems, which are applied into aerospace, automotive, electric vehicle and aviation technology.
Key responsibilities of the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer job:
- Lead all design activities from “concept to manufacture” achieving technical and economical performance of these electro-mechanical systems.
- Strategically analyse the market, customer needs, trends and competition.
- Assist with mechanical design and development, in a role that has a mix of ‘hands on design’ and ‘project leading’ responsibilities.
- Carry out design calculations e.g. thermal growths, hoop and tensile stresses and tolerance analysis to support design.
- Monitor progress in accordance with pre-agreed monthly milestone targets.
Key skills / experience required for the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer job:
- Experience in high-speed rotating machinery is essential.
- Confident user of 3D CAD software for design, ideally with exposure to Siemens NX.
- Proven track record of successfully leading multiple projects, coordinating and good people management skills
- Good knowledge of composite material
- Experience of producing designs with consideration of costs and ease of manufacture and assembly.
