Embedded Designer Engineer (Yeadon) Working within a multi-skilled development team, as an embedded engineer you will be developing new

products and managing existing designs. You will have strong analogue electronics/PCB design skills and

should be highly proficient at writing firmware using C language for PIC or ST ARM microcontrollers. This

role will be an on-site, full-time role, based at our Leeds manufacturing facility in Yeadon.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

1. Product design and development

a) Working within the development team you will be working on both the new product design and current

product development, managing existing designs and enhancing functionality.

b) Responsible for managing and delivering individual projects from concept to completion by advancing the

concept design into a product ready for manufacture.

c) Responsible for Hardware & PCB design and development by choosing appropriate components and

modules.

d) Maintenance of design files such as Schematic, PCB, BOM, firmware, release notes and mechanical

documents.

e) Responsible for developing firmware for microcontroller-based projects using C language.

f) Development of products in-line with the Hazardous area standards (EU and North America).

2. Working with customers and the engineers

a) Work with customer to develop specification and system design of new products.

b) Responsible for working out the mechanical aspect of the product by liaising with the mechanical

engineers.

c) Work closely with the test engineers in order to develop the production test rigs.

d) Reporting to the Engineering Manager.

3. Product testing

a) Responsible for the full product life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, and test of key enhancement as required. b) Designing and testing prototypes and realising a manufacture-able product. c) Thorough testing of both hardware and firmware at development stages using the principal of unit testing, destructive testing / HALT testing. d) Log and maintain an organised record of all the tests conducted on hardware and firmware during product development. e) Initially supporting product testing after the production grade product is released. 4. Other duties a) Creating and managing product documentation such as: technical files, product manuals, troubleshooting guides, manufacturing and test procedures. b) Prioritise workload based on resources available. c) Run multiple tasks / manage multiple projects in parallel (switch to the highest priority task as and when required). d) Product maintenance support for existing and new products. e) Train and guide junior members of the staff f) Other duties as assigned.

The above tasks are the key aspects of the role but, like any other role, it is not possible to specify every

single task and requirement of the role and you are required to carry out any reasonable task required

of you.

Essential Requirements (i) Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. (ii) A minimum of 3 years of commercial design experience in the Electronics and Embedded C. (iii) Strong analogue electronics skills. (iv) A proven track record in designing PCBs using Proteus or Altium. (v) Highly proficient in C firmware development. (vi) Experience of working with PIC microcontrollers (8/16/32 bit) using MPLABX IDE and XC compilers OR experience of working with ST ARM Microcontrollers. (vii) Comfortable writing drivers for SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, USB etc. (viii) Experience of developing GUIs using C#. (ix) Good project management skills as would have to manage individual projects. (x) Good development, documentation, release and revision management skills. (xi) Experience of working with standard industrial network protocols (such as Modbus RU/TCP. EtherNet/IP, Profinet, etc). (xii) Dedicated individual who works hard to achieve the assigned targets. (xiii) Fluent in English, Verbal & written to enable everyday communication in multinational teams.

Desired Criteria (i) More than 5 years of industrial design experience. (ii) Experience of designing products for Hazardous Areas (Dust environment). (iii) Strong electromechanical skills. (iv) Working knowledge of JIRA and version control system (SVN).
