The Company:
Turbo Power Systems Limited is an established Company with 40+ years of experience in designing, developing, qualifying and manufacturing high performance electric motors, generators, drives and power electronics, from kW to multi MW and from 3,600 rpm to 160,000 rpm. We offer bespoke solutions to a variety of markets including the rail, aerospace, energy, military, and industrial markets. The Company has a global footprint with successful project execution in UK, USA, Canada, Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Middle East and Malaysia. Our success is based upon complete turnkey support i.e. in design, manufacturing through to Installation and through life support of products. The Company is based in Gateshead.
The Role:
TPS now wishes to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will develop mechanical design solutions for mechanical parts associated with all allocated projects, utilising the Companies preferred Computer Aided Design (CAD) system Creo Windchill and produce drawings to applicable internal and external standards using the company enterprise resource planning, (ERP) system to create accurate bill of materials, (BOM) prior to assembly. The candidate will do this by: –
Ø Production of accurate manufacturing drawings for all applicable parts (including use of change control) to allow operations to complete the assembly of the product. This will include component, sub assembly and general arrangement drawings including complete parts lists and specific manufacturing data.
Ø The generation and maintenance of BOM’s using the companies ERP system, Epicor.
Ø The creation of schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and wiring schedules.
Ø Liaison with relevant operations departments to identify and release production information specific to applicable projects as required.
Ø Monitoring the progress of all undertaken mechanical designs by holding regular design reviews with the aim to facilitate accurate and timely product introduction; reducing the cost of change-request for change, (RFC’s).
Ø Work with the basic constraints for electro magnetic capability, (EMC), power flow, vibration, shock, thermal performance, maintenance and access requirements so to assist in the development of mechanical assembly concepts for each project.
Ø Ensuring mechanical design solutions are viable and cost effective, utilising all available manufacturing methods as applicable. Consider at every opportunity cost reduction, design and continuous improvement.
Ø Adherence to the departments and company quality processes (ISO9001).
Ø Maintenance of all legacy drawing office records to the applicable company standards.
Qualifications:
Ideally the successful candidate is likely to have a higher national certificate in mechanical engineering and quality related qualification(s).
Report:
The role will report directly to the Engineering Implementation Manager and you will be responsible for delivering the near term objectives laid out by management.
