Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Welshpool, Powys
Are you a highly skilled and innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer seeking an exciting opportunity? Our client, a dynamic company at the forefront of innovation, is looking for an exceptional individual to lead the mechanical design aspects of new product development projects. As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving engineering endeavors and contributing to cutting-edge initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design projects, providing technical expertise.
- Create technical specifications based on user requirements and industry standards.
- Develop concept designs, emphasizing manufacturability, assembly ease, reliability, and cost.
- Collaborate daily with engineers from multiple disciplines on complex power and control electronic products.
- Conduct thermal and mechanical simulations (experience advantageous but not essential; training available).
- Prototype and evaluate mechanical designs.
- Manage and facilitate product testing, e.g., shock and vibration, ingress protection.
- Contribute to technical design reviews, offering constructive critique.
Candidate Profile:
- Proficient in 3D CAD (PTC Creo preferred but not essential).
- Understanding of material selection and its impact on part function, cost, and manufacturability.
- Strong focus on design for reliability and cost-effectiveness.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques with a grasp of ‘design for manufacture.’
- Self-motivated with effective personal time management.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to learn and apply computer simulation techniques (experience beneficial but not essential).
Travel Requirements:
- Infrequent travel may be required.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Degree qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience in a similar or related field.
- Design experience with electronic/electrical products, connectors, die casting, injection molding, sheet metal, extrusions, heatsinks, PCBA packaging, connectors.
- Thermal design experience is advantageous.
- Experience working with and interpreting product and safety standards.
